Photography – Airshow
Pilatus Porter PC-6s are aircraft meant to fly in the most incredible situations and places.
I saw them flying in thick fog, using the highway as a guide, 100ft maximum above my car. The so-called « IFR » technique, a joke abbreviation for « I Follow the Road ». During which the pilot actually looks downward to find his way, not straight ahead, where only white is to be seen. They better know the terrain very well, because if there is a tunnel ahead or a power line crossing the road…
During airshows, when Porters fly in close formations and the camera’s tele lens compresses the perspective, they seem to piggyback on top of each other.
